Viola Davis Will Star & Produce – ‘The Fighting Shirley Chisholm’

Earlier this week, it was announced that Viola Davis and her husband, Julius Tennon’s company, JuVee Productions, had signed a first look deal with Amazon Studios.

This week, they have unveiled their first project. 

Davis will both produce and star in The Fighting Shirley Chisholm, the story of Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to the United States Congress and the first woman and first black major-party candidate to run for President of the United States. She announced her presidential bid in a Brooklyn area Baptist church in 1972.

The Fighting Shirley Chisholm will be written by Adam Countee and directed by Maggie Betts.
