Will Smith’s Oldest Son Trey Felt ‘Betrayed & Abandoned’ After Divorce From His Mom

Will Smith has been swimming with sharks and traveling the world on his Facebook TV series, Will Smith’s Bucket List. But in the latest episode, he took the show in a new direction as he crossed off one of the most important items of his life — working on his relationship with his oldest son, Trey Smith.

There was definitely an adventure involved as Will and Trey shared their love for race cars. The two headed to Abu Dhabi for tips from Formula 1 champ Lewis Hamilton before they hit the pavement on the racetrack.

Still, Will confessed that this was a perfect excuse to restore his bond with Trey, whose mother is Will’s first wife, Sheree Zampino. He has since remarried Jada Pinkett Smith and had children Jaden Smith and Willow Smith.

“This relationship with Trey is brand new. When you get divorced and start another family that had effects on Trey that we’re still healing and overcoming. Really in the last two years there has been enough wisdom and emotional development to be able to lovingly address the issues. We’re diving into creating a divine, loving friendship.”

Also in the episode, Will dishes on his love for cars to Trey. 

“I grew up with serious racing dreams and desires that I was never able to fulfill. I always loved cars. Then when you were fifteen years old and you started driving the first thing I had you do was taking professional driving courses. Deep down inside I was living vicariously through you. And, as any good son would do, you threw it back in my face. Deep in the back of your mind you think you’re a better driver than me.”

Of course they battled it out to see who was really the best.

It looks like his efforts are paying off. Will also spoke on the episode via Instagram after filming it back in November, and said that Trey revealed his thoughts on their relationship.

“So we’ve been doing this thing, hanging at the F1, and [Trey] said, ‘You know what dad? I just realized you’re not just my dad. I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend.’ I was like, ‘Yeah man, prolly. Prolly.'”

Will added in the caption that he Trey have certainly put in the work to get to the point they’re at today.
