The Los Angeles Lakers reached an agreement with the New Orleans Pelicans to acquire 3-time NBA All-Star, Anthony Davis for a core of young talent including Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and future draft picks. The blockbuster trade was stalled over the week as the teams were in discussion to include Lakers forward, Kyle Kuzma in trade. According to ESPN,

The future picks going to the Pelicans include a 2021 pick that will go to New Orleans if it is in the top eight in that year’s draft — and will become an unprotected pick in 2022 if it isn’t.

In addition, the deal includes a pick swap in 2023, which is unprotected, as well as an unprotected first-round pick in 2024 that the Pelicans will have the right to defer until 2025.

After the Lakers were able to hold onto Kuzma in trade for Davis, Lakers superstar LeBron James shared his approval of his newly acquired teammate. He writes on Instagram over the weekend,

“AD on da way!! Let’s get it bro! Just the beginning.”

As the blockbuster trade exploded over social media, several notable celebrities took to James’ comments in celebration including rapper T.I. and Black Panther actor, Michael B. Jordan. Comedian and actor, Jamie Foxx adds a few emojis with writing

“Oooooo sh*t!!! It’s a prollem… time to cook and have fun!!”

Soon after the trade was announced, outspoken father of Lonzo, LaVar Ball commented on his son being traded from the Lakers while at the Drew League. Ball says,

“I guarantee, like I say again, it will be the worst move the Lakers ever did in their life and they will never win another championship. Guarantee it.”

Ball continues,

“They’re going to regret it. I’m going to have fun with it. Because I told you all, it was crashing down. Now [the Lakers] completely crashed, but at least my son got off the boat before the thing exploded. I gave them a chance. You can rewind it and go back. I said if you get the three Ball brothers, you can survive this. You let him go, oh, it’s going to be a cold day in hell. Trust and believe that.”

Ball’s comments went viral as he mentioned the trade would be the worst move the franchise has ever made. Former Lakers center and NBA champion, Shaquille O’Neal, who was traded from the Laker in 2004, took to Instagram and had a hilarious clap back to Ball’s outlandish comments. Shaq says,

“Second worst.”
