Issa Rae To Produce & Potentially Star In ‘Set It Off’ Reimagining
Issa Rae, New Line Teaming for ‘Set It Off’ Reimagining
Business is booming for Issa Rae. The 34-year-old actress and producer is tackling a reimagining the hit 1996 film, Set It Off.
The film was produced by F. Gary Gray and starred Jada Pinkett, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox and Kimberly Elise (in her film debut). It followed four close friends in Los Angeles, California, who decide to plan and execute a bank robbery. They decide to do so for different reasons, although all four want better for themselves and their families. The film became a critical and box office success, grossing over $41 million against a budget of $9 million.
Rae will produce the new project, along with Montrel McKay, Rae’s partner at Issa Rae Productions.
Syreeta Singleton (Black Monday) and Nina Gloster (Star) have been hired to pen the script.
Earlier this year, Issa co-starred in Little, alongside Marsai Martin and Regina Hall.
She’s currently filming the upcoming season of HBO’s Insecure, which she writes, executive produces and stars in.
