Lil Nas X Prayed That Being Gay Was A Phase
Lil Nas X is opening up about his sexuality. In June, the 20-year-old Old Town Road hit maker announced that he was gay. In a new interview, he admits that at first he hoped being gay was
‘just a phase’.
He told Gayle King,
‘I knew. Specially around my teenage years, I was just like, you know, praying, praying, praying that it was like a phase. Yeah, go away.’
He explained that as a young teen being gay was an issue:
‘I mean ’cause, me been in this position, it’s easy for me, but, like, some little boy, ten miles from here, it’s not going to be good for him.’
Asked by Gayle, if he thought his openess about his sexuality would be inspiring to those following in his footsteps, Lil Nas replied:
‘I think it’s gonna always help, you know it’s gonna. But you still have a long way to go. You know, someone who’s like, listening to me in school right now, it’s like ‘you gay cause you listening to him’. There’s still a lot to be done of course but I do believe it’s helping.’

He wrote:
