Ice Cube Apologizes To John Witherspoon For Not Getting New ‘Friday’ Movie Made, Blames ‘Some Dumba** People In Hollywood’
Talks of a fourth installment of the classic film Friday have been buzzing all year, ever since Ice Cube confirmed that it was in the works and would be released in 2020.

But since then, actor and comedian John Witherspoon, who played his father in the franchise, has passed. At his celebration of life earlier this month, Ice Cube took the stage and not only apologized to John Witherspoon for not getting the Last Friday movie done before he died but also pointed the finger at Hollywood, stating that it wasn’t his fault. He states (via Hip Hollywood):
“I really apologize to my friend for not getting the next Friday movie made. It’s not my fault. Some dumbass people in Hollywood at New Line Cinema.”
He also told the audience who to talk to at New Line Cinema if they wanted answers.
“You can email (former New Line Cinema President and COO) Toby Emmerich and (current New Line Cinema President and CCO) Richard Brener if you feel like I feel.”
He then addressed Emmerich and Brener and said,
“Gave you punks two scripts and you didn’t wanna do them. That’s the real. We were tryin’ to make that movie for years and we couldn’t get it done. We got the other three and we got our memories and we got our love. My condolences to the family.”
He also said when he penned the script for the original Friday, he knew he wanted Witherspoon to play his dad.
“The reason I wanted him to be my father in that movie is because he reminds me of my real father. But my real father isn’t as funny… I knew if we got John Witherspoon, this was before we decided to go with Chris Tucker, we knew if we got John Witherspoon in the movie, the movie would be funny no matter who else we got in it. And when he said yeah, it was one of the happiest moments that we had making the movie. We knew we had an achor. We knew we had somebody that was 10 times funnier than us… that the movie could possibly work.”
Witherspoon played Ice Cube’s dad in all three Fridays: Friday, Next Friday and Friday After Next.
Ice Cube first confirmed the 4th movie Last Friday in 2017, and said he was finishing the script in June 2018.

What do you think should be the next move for the fourth Friday? Tell us in the comments.
