Real Housewives of Potomac’s Monique Samuels Files Counter Assault Charges Against Candiace Dillard
The drama between “The Real Housewives of Potomac” co-stars and former friends Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard is getting uglier and uglier.
It was previously reported that Candiace Dillard pressed assault charges against Monique Samuels after a dispute while taping for the Bravo series on Oct. 16. Now, Monique Samuels has returned the favor with counter-charges against Candiace Dillard.
Dillard was served via the District Court of Montgomery County in Maryland Thursday (Nov. 14) for second-degree assault. Her trial is scheduled for Dec. 23.
Samuels’ lawyer A. Scott Bolden said in a statement that Samuels
“had no choice but to file this criminal summons case after several attempts to mediate this situation with [Dillard] were rejected by herself and her team.”
He added that Samuels’ alleged attack against Dillard was nothing more than self defense.
“My client was assaulted by someone known for her aggressive, threatening and belligerent conduct. On this regard, Mrs. Samuels had no choice but to fully defend herself and she did.”
“Nevertheless, my client wants nothing more than to find peace with this situation but unfortunately the ability to do so through mediation has been denied. Therefore, this summons is the proper next step for Mrs. Samuels and her right to self-defense.”
Dillard doesn’t seem bothered by the charges. Her attorney, James J. Walker Jr. said,
“I did not know innocent people filed counter claims as a strategic move after we all know they have been charged and caught on video threatening and attacking our client!”
“We pray she is presently getting some type of treatment for anger management! The video is very clear and my client and I have confirmed with the network that Mrs. Samuels was clearly the aggressor!”
As for what happened between the two, according to reports they were enjoying dinner with their fellow cast members when they got into a screaming match. Samuels is accused of allegedly pulling Dillard by the hair to the ground. Several people jumped in to stop Samuels before police arrived.
And this was all caught on camera.
The new charges also come amid a back-and-forth between the two on social media after Dillard accused Samuels of blocking her from singing the national anthem at a game in Washington, D.C. Saturday (Nov. 16).
Fans saw the downward spiral of their friendship on the recent fourth season of “The Real Housewives of Potomac.”
But they seemed to make up during the reunion special that was taped weeks later.
Just a month ago, Dillard said they weren’t where they once were in their friendship, but they were “good.”
It’s not clear what happened to make their friendship get physical.
