Will Smith Admits He Once Compared Himself To The Rock: I Had A Brief Moment Where I Got Stuck On Him & He’s Doing All These Billion-Dollar Movies

First, it was Tupac now it’s The Rock!

Will Smith has revealed that he actually used to compare himself to wrestler turned all-star actor The Rock. Just moments after confessing he was insecure about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s close friendship with late rapper Tupac during an interview with The Breakfast Club, Will Smith opened up about his feelings about The Rock, who most recently starred in the Jumanji sequel The Next Level alongside Kevin Hart.

When asked if he felt he had something to prove, he said he doesn’t feel that way anymore. He said he intentionally doesn’t look at box office numbers but has maintained inner happiness within himself that can’t be tainted. But before he got to this point, he said he was eyeing The Rock’s success.

He said while promoting the highly-anticipated Bad Boys 3 film to be released later this week:

“I had a brief moment there where I got stuck on The Rock and he’s doing all these billion-dollar movies and I got stuck… and that animal woke up again.”

He continued,

“I realized there’s never enough. You’ll never earn enough money if you stick yourself on sex, you’ll never have enough sex. You’ll never have enough of anything in the material world. So, I’m in the mind space now where I’m letting go of that and I just gotta be good with me. I gotta walk around happy and comfortable with me no matter what anyone else thinks. That’s where I’m at right now, kind of detoxing my addiction to numbers and wins and comparison.”

His co-star Martin Lawrence also answered the question and said,

“I don’t feel like I have anything to prove but I’m not finished. I feel like I got so much more to do.”
