Leslie Jones Calls Out Oscars For Lack Of Black Nominees + Reacts When Accused Of ‘Begging For Seat At The Table’
Leslie Jones had a rude awakening when she went to go vote for her favorite Oscar nominees.
The “Saturday Night Live” alum took to Instagram to reveal that she only voted for Cynthia Erivo, who’s nominated for Best Actress and Best Original Song from Harriet, which was released in November.
Leslie Jones wrote,
“Welp I just finished voting for the Oscars. It didn’t take long cause there are no black people on it. So I voted for @cynthiaerivo and abstained from the rest of the voting. #moreblackpeopleplease”

She also didn’t hesitate to respond to criticism for her comment.
She replied to one IG user who questioned why she’s “still begging white people” to be included. Leslie Jones wrote,
“begging huh? Change your mentality homie you part of the problem. And you talking to a 52 year old I GOT MY OWN F***ING TABLE! So respect your elder or get the f*** off [my] page”

She had no problem confirming she only voted based off of race.

Her post comes after director Issa Rae offered a sarcastic remark while announcing the nominees for Best Director last month.

Let’s not forget the time she said she was “rooting for everybody black” at the Emmy Awards in 2017.

The Oscar Awards air on Sunday (Feb. 9) at 8/7c on ABC.
