Jussie Smollett Breaks His Social Media Hiatus With A Song [VIDEO]
Actor and singer Jussie Smollett, 37, makde his return to social media on Wednesday (March 25th), after a nine month hiatus sharing a short message amid the global COVID-19 crisis.
The former Empire actor was seen in the clip playing a piano while singing the legendary Stevie Wonder song, “A Place in The Sun.” Since his alleged attack in early 2019, Smollett has stayed relatively mute as he pointed out he has been quarantine for over 400 days writing,
“Quarantine day 421. Hope y’all are staying safe. Spread love and kindness… not Rona.”
For Jussie Smollett, Wednesday marks 421 days exactly since his January 29, 2019 – the date of his alleged attack. As previously reported, just last month Smollett entered a plea of not guilty to six new charges.
Prior to being re-charged in February, Smollett was hit with 16 felony counts for filing a false police report, but those charges were later dropped. In addition, the city of Chicago took legal action against the former Empire actor by suing him for more than $100,000 for the cost of the investigation.
Smollett says the new charges are “frustrating,” but he plans to fight for his innocence.
“It’s definitely frustrating but you just gotta fight or die at this point…I don’t claim to be innocent, I am innocent.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Jussie Smollett
As previously reported, the Mayor of the city of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, declared that she intends to make sure Smollett is held accountable for allegedly staging a racist/homophobic attack against himself. She said,
“He needs to face the charges. He committed a crime, and he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
She continued:
“And we are going to continue to aggressively make him accountable for the wasted police resources that went into investigating what turned out to be a total hoax.”
The new charges claim he filed four different false police reports to Chicago police after the incident. If convicted, Smollett reportedly faces up to three years behind bars, a fine up to $25,000 and community service.
