LisaRaye On Lil Kim & Nicki Minaj Comparisons: Kim Came Before You, Why Would You Snub Her? That’s Immature!
Usher isn’t the only one that thinks superstar rapper Nicki Minaj is merely a branch from the Lil Kim tree. In an Instagram Live discussion with Verzuz creator Swizz Beatz, Usher said this about a possible battle between Nicki Minaj and her former arch nemesis, Lil Kim:
“Nicki is a product of Kim!”
They mad at Usher for saying NM is a product of Lil Kim. Lil Kim's influence can be found all over female rap. KIM took heat for sexually explicit lyrics, music videos & all just so yall favs could be comfortable doing it YEARS LATER. Denying it on Stan Twitter wont change that. pic.twitter.com/q45199yKsd

Usher’s comment started a wave of social media controversy, and actress LisaRaye McCoy is the latest to chime in on the subject on the FoxSoul show, “Cocktails With Queens.” She alludes that Nicki Minaj’s ego is keeping her from paying proper homage to Bad Boy’s Queen Bee. Co-host Claudia Jordan asked:
“Why are they mad at saying Lil Kim paved the way? She did!…What’s wrong with that?…I don’t know why the fans are getting so mad at Usher.”
LisaRaye responded with this spirited answer:
“It’s almost like we need to stop them and put them in their place. Music is not the mafia! It’s entertainment! What is the beef for? She is who she is! She is shining in her light! She is Lil Kim, Queen Bee forreal. Hands down! She came before you, so how do you even turn the other cheek or snub her? Why would you? Why not collaborate with her?…be that much bigger and better together! That’s immature, Nicki! It’s immature!”

She continued:
“All of us are acknowledging the fact that Lil Kim came before Nicki Minaj. So Nicki, just take a seat. You don’t have to sit down for long- but just take a bow. Just like Beyonce said: ‘Bow down, b*tches!'”

Syleena Johnson echoed LisaRaye’s sentiments on acknowledging the foremothers of your craft:
“Everybody paved the way for everybody!…I like them all!…When we say, ‘Bow down,’ it’s not to diminish you- but to acknoweldge where this all came from. I have to bow down to Aretha [Franklin], to Whitney [Houston], to Gladys [Knight], to Anita Baker…these people have been in the game, and- I’m sorry. They’ve paid the price!”
Vivica A. Fox would still like to see the Lil Kim Verzuz Nicki Minaj battle happen:
“I would love to see it happen- absolutely. But for the egos to go aside? I doubt we’ll see it. But would it be epic? Look at when Erykah Badu and Jill Scott did it! It broke all kind of records!”
Meanwhile, Tamar Braxton doesn’t agree with Usher and company. She feels that Nicki doesn’t owe her success to Lil Kim.
