Serena Williams Says She Was Shocked When Husband Resigned From Reddit So Black Candidate Could Replace Him
Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian Jr. are opening up about his recent decision to step down from Reddit Board, and be replace by a black candidate.
“He recently has stepped down from the reddit board and that was something that was I think shocking to everyone definitely shocking to me.”
We previously reported that Ohanian Jr. had announced his resignation as co-founder of Reddit, a billion-dollar website.
This was after George Floyd, an unarmed black man, was killed during an arrest by Minneapolis cops that used excessive force. Ohanian Jr. has promised that his future gains from Reddit stock will go to serve the black community.

When talking about Ohanian Jr. recent decision, Serena Williams said:
“This is all Alexis, which is really cool. A lot of people may think that I told you to do something, or that I forced you, or that I was in your ear… he doesn’t listen to me ever! So that’s not the case […] I’ve been taught to see things different because of who I am and because of the color of my skin.”
Serena Williams also enlighten the fact that she has been a victim of racism throughout her life.
“A lot of people don’t know, my whole life I’ve had to deal with so many different challenges. I’ve had to deal with a lot of inequality, I’ve had to deal with racism. Honestly, sadly, it has become… somewhat of a norm for me.”
“There’s been so many situations that I’ve been in, that you know, I just have to take the high road even to this day. I just feel like, personally it’s no better time to be the color that I am. It’s no better time to be black. I’m proud. I’m always going to be proud to be who I am. To be black, I just feel like I wouldn’t be who I am, I wouldn’t be as strong as I am, I wouldn’t be able to be as amazing as I have been so far in my career I wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t black.”
She added:
“It’s sad that someone on my level has had to accept being paid less [and] accept so many different things because of the color of my skin. I think I’d be very angry, very spiteful, very jealous if I didn’t have this spiritual background.”
