Gilbert Arenas Apologizes For ‘Coon Behavior’ After Saying Lupita Nyong’o Is ‘Cute W/ The Lights Off’
Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas,38, is apologizing for what he described as “coon” behavior after being criticized for remarks he made about black actress Lupita Nyong’o,37, a few years ago.
In the wake of a Black Lives Matter movement across the world, Gilbert Arenas has issued a public apology via his Instagram story, with a photo of Lupita Nyong’o in the background saying,
“We can’t come together as a race, until the idiots of the race, (rights their wrongs.)”
He adds,
“My name is Gilbert, and I was an IDIOT, for attacking one of out queens for no reason, @lupitanyongo (I’m truly sorry for my coon behavior) #BlackLivesMatterDEADandALIVE #black excellence”

The comment in question landed in 2017 when the former baller made a response to a post by ProBlkThought. The post read,
Dear Black Girl: You don’t have to be mixed to be beautiful.

Gilbert Arenas responded that there were not many dark skin women, beautify black women. He wrote,
“How black are we talking??? Not to be funny can u name a beautiful black women on the outside … not brown skin … like tyrese black … top 50 most beautiful women off [sic] all time … the darkest women they have is (Keshia Knight Pulliam aka Rudy) (gab)) union) (taral hicks) (Serena Williams)”
He then added that Lupita Nyong’o is only cute when the lights are off,
“When u say African features black then u have (#1 lupita nyong’o) and she’s cute when the lights are off second is (Ajuma nasenyana) sorry but ewww so the black beautiful women u try to boost up is technically light skinned or brown skinned.”
