George Floyd – Body Camera Transcripts Of His Arrest & Murder Released, He Told Officers He Could Not Breathe 20 Times
The controversial murder of George Floyd has reignited the movement for black lives across the country and around the world. George Floyd was murdered at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers on May 25.
In the now viral video, Mr. Floyd was restrained and lost consciousness when officer Derek Chauvin placed his knee on George Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Now, newly released body camera transcripts have come out that documented the chilling murder, where Mr. Floyd is heard pleading for his life.
In the transcripts you can hear Mr. Floyd saying,
“Come on, man. Oh, oh. I cannot breathe. I cannot breathe, They’ll kill me. They’ll kill me. I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.”
Mr. Floyd repeatedly told officers that he could not breathe 20 times. The transcripts were taken from the body cameras of two of the officers charged in the murder, Thomas Laine and J. Alexander Keung. The two officers are currently trying to get the murder case against them thrown out by a judge. The filing states that Lane,
“did not intentionally aid, advise, hire, counsel, or conspire with [Derek] Chauvin or otherwise procure Chauvin to commit second-degree murder.”
Mr. Floyd told Thomas Lane who approached him with his gun drawn,
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. God dang man. Man, I got shot. I got shot the same way, Mr. Officer, before.”
Footage from Kueng’s body cam revealed that the former cop escorted Mr. Floyd to a car across the street to sit him down. Mr. Floyd thanked him, offered his identification and information.
The encounter escalated when Kueng told Mr. Floyd, 46, he was being detained on suspicion of passing a fake bill. A struggle ensued with Kueng and Lane attempting to get Mr. Floyd into the back of the police car.
“Man, you going to die of a heart attack. Just get in the car.”
This is the moment when Derek Chauvin placed his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds and pleaded with the officers that he could not breathe. Mr. Floyd is then heard saying,
“Momma, I love you. Tell my kids I love them. I’m dead.”
At this point, Lane asked Chauvin if Mr. Floyd should be turned on his side and was worried that Mr. Floyd was having a medical emergency. Derek Chauvin responded,
“No, he’s staying put where we got him. Well that’s why we got the ambulance coming.”
Lane then responds,
“OK, I suppose, I think he’s passing out.”
An angry bystander told the police detaining Mr. Floyd that it seemed as though he had become unresponsive.
“He’s not even breathing right now, bro, you think that’s cool? You think that’s cool, right?”
The death of Mr. Floyd led to the firing and arrest of Derek Chauvin and the three other officers involved in the incident. Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder, while the others were indicted on aiding and abetting Mr. Floyd’s death.
