Actor Dave Franco To Star As Vanilla Ice In Upcoming Biopic
The onscreen life story of late eighties rapper Vanilla Ice (real name, Rob Van Winkle) has officially been confirmed – and has a leading man! In an interview with Insider, “Superbad” actor Dave Franco confirmed he’ll be starring as Vanilla Ice.
“We have been in development for a while, but we are inching closer and closer to pre-production.”
Concrete filming dates are unknown due to the coronavirus pandemic. But Dave Franco says he’s used the extra time to prepare and research Vanilla Ice.
“Rob is such a sweet and intelligent guy, and he’s been super helpful in the process of getting all the details correct and making us privy to information the public doesn’t know. Just talking to him, I can’t help but think about the rabbit holes I’m going to go down to get ready for the role.”

The film was first announced to the public in the 2018 Black List, in which the biopic was given this description:
“From a high school dropout selling cars in Dallas to having the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard charts with ‘Ice Ice Baby,’ a young Vanilla Ice struggles with stardom, extortion attempts and selling out as he makes music history.”
Vanilla Ice went on to star in his own reality series, “The Vanilla Ice Project,” as well as “Dancing With the Stars” in 2016.
