Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Sue Over Drone Photos Of Son Archie Taken At Their L.A. Home
The fight for the right of privacy for former senior British royals Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continues after they filed a lawsuit Thursday (July 23) in regards to drone photos that were taken of their young son, Archie. The suit was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court by the couple’s attorney, Michael Kump of the Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert law firm in Santa Monica, California.
The detailed 10-page complaint specifies Prince Harry‘s and Meghan Markle‘s issues are with the invasion of privacy in a general sense as well as the invasion of privacy through “intrusion upon seclusion.” The couple sued after
“the relentless and quite frankly shocking efforts of the tabloid media to profit from serial intrusions on the privacy of a 14-month-old child in his own home.”
The complaint also details the new California residents’ attempts to escape the prying eyes of the tabloids after announcing that they would be stepping down from the senior roles in the British monarchy. The document advises that their residence in a quiet town in Canada was published for all to see.
“For the first six weeks, the Plaintiffs lived unmolested in the quiet, isolated town of North Saanich, Canada, with no disturbance to the surrounding community. But then the Daily Mail, a British tabloid, decided to publicize their exact location, which as usual resulted in up to 40 paparazzi and media organizations descending on this peaceful community from hundreds of miles away. The resulting harassment and intimidation created disruption and discomfort for both the family and the local community.”
As a result, the couple moved and have resided in what is believed to be the Los Angeles area mansion belonging to actor and producer Tyler Perry. The home is within a gated community and for a while, the document says that the family lived there without incident until once again, fans were informed of their location. The complaint goes on to detail that the intrusions have disturbed the family and the neighborhood due to the helicopters and drones that have been flown above their residence in an attempt to obtain photographs of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their young son, Archie.
The lawsuit continues,
“The family has tried to ignore these physical and constructive trespasses at best they can and go about their daily routine in these unique times. But the Plaintiffs recently learned that certain paparazzi and their enablers have crossed a red line for any parent. In particular, the couple recently learned that someone in shopping photographs of their 14-month-old son, Archie, falsely claiming to have taken them on a “recent” public outing “in Malibu.” But Archie has not been in public, let alone in Malibu, since the family arrived here. It is clear from a description of the photographs being shopped that they were taken of activities in the backyard of the residence, unbeknownst to the Plaintiffs.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s lawsuit names John Doe 1-100 since they do not know the identity of the person(s) who took the photos of young Archie or who or what entity is attempting to sell them. In their complaint, they requested for whoever took the photos to turn them over and they reportedly seek to be provided with punitive and compensatory damages.
This is not the first time the couple has had to deal with the paparazzi seeking them out. They hired their own security detail to protect them from the paparazzi after they reported seeing drones above their residence to the Los Angeles Police Department back in May.
