Gabourey Sidibe Made A Promise To Be Meaner To Men Before Finding Her Boyfriend

Gabourey Sidibe and her boyfriend Brandon Frankel have been going strong since they went public with their romance earlier this year.

In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, the “Empire” star revealed that before finding love with the marketing and branding pro, she made a promise that she would be meaner to men after experiencing certain treatment because of her gender.

She said:

“I was not going to care what they wanted from me. I was never going to offer them anything. I would not cook for men or take care of men.”

She now has a different perspective on her promise and added:

“It’s like a dumb thing I did for myself. And then very quickly after that I had a boyfriend.”

The two started dating last year and have been in quarantine together in Los Angeles for the past couple of months. They were previously in Chicago during the earlier days of the shut down as Gabourey Sidibe, who now stars in the new film Antebellum, wrapped up the final season of “Empire.”

She made the vow about a year before she started filming for the newly released film Antebellum, which also stars Janelle Monae.

She said of her character Dawn:

“I love Dawn so much because Dawn is in charge. Dawn is the one that’s in charge of her dates and sexuality. Of course someone’s looking at her from across the bar. She’s gorgeous! She owns herself. She owns her space. And she has agency in a way that I had to learn to get.”

Brandon Frankel saluted Gabourey Sidibe at the beginning of the year and said:

“Here’s to 2020- this past year was one of the toughest, but also one of the most rewarding and fulfilling of my life all at the same time! I’m truly thankful for my close family, friends, associates past and present…and most of all, for THIS Queen right here. You’re a ball of sunshine, so generous and giving of your time, resources, and love- and your excitement and passion for life and people/things you love truly lights up my heart.”

“You’ve taught me so much about life, myself, and the world that is truly invaluable. You make me push myself to be a better me, even though you probably don’t even realize you are. I love you more and more every single day- which seems impossible, but continually amazes me. Here’s to 2020- and thank you for loving me so unconditionally. I love being your forever-Dork”
