Actor O-T Fagbenle Cast As Barack Obama In Showtime’s ‘The First Lady’, Will Star Opposite Viola Davis Who Will Play Michelle Obama
The cast for Showtime’s upcoming series The First Lady is coming together!
As previously reported, actress Viola Davis has been cast as former FLOTUS Michelle Obama. She will also co-executive produce the project with Julius Tennon under their JuVee Productions.
Now, British actor O-T Fagbenle has officially been cast as her on-screen husband and former President Barack Obama.
Fagbenle recently played Luke Bankole in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale.
He’s also landed a part in Marvel’s upcoming film Black Widow. His resume includes writing, directing, composing and executive producing “Maxxx”, which also streamed on Hulu.
Each season of the hour-long series will feature a unique look at the experiences of women who have held the title of First Lady of the U.S. The debut season will tell the stories of Michelle Obama, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Betty Ford.
Jana Winograde, president of the network, said:
“Throughout our history, presidents’ spouses have wielded remarkable influence, not only on the nation’s leaders but on the country itself. ’First Ladies’ fits perfectly within the Showtime wheelhouse of drama and politics, revealing how much personal relationships impact both domestic and global events. Having Viola Davis play Michelle Obama is a dream come true, and we couldn’t be luckier to have her extraordinary talent to help launch this series.”
He has also appeared in “The Five”, “The Interceptor”, “Looking”, “As If,” and “Doctor Who.”
Fagbenle shared his excitement on Instagram and wrote,
“Not sure what’s more of an honour, playing @barackobama doing a TV show honouring @michelleobama or getting to work with the inspirational @violadavis . Suffice to say I’m giving thanks :)”
