EXCLUSIVE: ‘Snowfall’ Actress Michael Hyatt Reveals How She Breaks Away From Her Character: ‘I Fully Wash My Face Off Before I leave Work’ + Recalls Working With The late John Singleton: It Was Brilliant To Be A Part Of That Energy
In an exclusive interview with theJasmineBRAND.com, ‘Snowfall’ actress, Michael Hyatt opens up about her role on the hit TV show and how she breaks away from her character. Michael Hyatt has been apart of the TV series since its first season in 2017. She plays Cissy Saint, mother of drug dealer Franklin Saint, who is the main character on the FX show. Michael Hyatt spoke candidly with us on how she breaks away from the serious character she plays.
“I fully wash my face off before I leave work. Any remnant of make up is gone. I completely wash the experience from my being, by washing off my face.”
She continued,
“When I come home I should be able to just fully fall into my world, and I can’t do that if I’m wearing Cissy, or whomever else because Michael doesn’t wear a bunch of makeup. So once I’m done with work, let it go.”
Michael Hyatt goes on to talk about her on-camera relationship with lead star Damson Idris and the skills he brings to the show.
“Damson keeps me on my toes, absolutely. There are times when –I am slower–I’m like all in the moments and sh*t and sifting through and Damson wants to get to it, he doesn’t want any air in between the blah blah blah–that’s his passion, his intensity.”
Hyatt says she and Damson Idris have a balance with one another on camera.
“It is a balance between he and I. There are times when that is absolutely necessary and there are times when the intensity–and so he brings this energy with him to the work that we do.”

Michael Hyatt expresses how grateful she is to have worked with the late John Singleton who co-created the TV series.
“John, I have learned so much from being apart of this experience, the least of it being Cissy. I proudly and happily and willingly say that. Being around John, here comes this man who in essence says, ‘F*** you to the industry.’ And it was brilliant to be a part of that energy.”
She continued,
“It was brilliant for my own psyche, for my own understanding of what is possible for me as an African woman, as an African artist in this predominately white industry. This bold a** arrogant audacious man who said I’m going to tell my story and I’m going to tell it my way. F*** whether you understand me or not.”

John Singleton
The iconic director/producer passed away in 2019 at the age of 51 after suffering from an acute ischemic stroke. Contributing factors in his death were intracerebral hemorrhage and hypertension.
He was best known for writing and directing Boyz n the Hood in 1991, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director. Singleton was a native of South Los Angeles and many of his early films, such as Poetic Justice (1993), Higher Learning (1995), and Baby Boy (2001), consider the implications of inner-city violence. Some of his other films include dramas such as Rosewood (1997) in addition to action films such as Shaft (2000), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), and Four Brothers (2005).
Season 4 of ‘Snowfall’ is currently airing of FX and Hulu.
