Paris Jackson Opens Up About Lessons Dad Michael Jackson Taught Her: He Didn’t Just Show Us The Glitz & Glam
Paris Jackson is speaking on her childhood and growing up as one of three of late King of Pop Michael Jackson’s children.
She sat down with supermodel and friend of Michael Jackson, Naomi Campbell, for her web series No Filter With Naomi.
Paris Jackson first explained,
“I was conceived in Paris, from what I’ve been told, which is part of why I was named Paris. Born in L.A., California, and was kind of raised everywhere, but we spent a few years up north in like, [the] Solvang, Santa Barbara area. But I was raised kind of everywhere, like the East Coast, the South, U.K., Europe, the Middle East. We grew up everywhere.”
While her father is a musical icon, he exposed them to other ways of life that weren’t so glamorous.
“It was difficult…a blessing a privilege to be able to experience so much at a young age. My dad was really good about making sure we were cultured, making sure we were educated, and not just showing us like, the glitz and glam, like hotel-hopping five-star places. It was also like, we saw everything. We saw third-world countries and we saw like, every part of the spectrum.”
She added,
“I’m also a full believer that I should earn everything. Even growing up it was about earning stuff. If we wanted five toys from FAO Schwarz or Toys ‘R’ Us, we had to read five books…It’s earning it, not just being entitled to certain things or thinking ‘Oh I got this.’ It’s … working hard for it.”
Last August, Paris Jackson opened up about her sexuality and said she doesn’t want to use labels to define her preference.
“I don’t feel like there is a label for my sexuality that fits. Labels in general, not just for sexuality but for everything, I think, are just ways for humans to make sense of the world, to be able to compartmentalize.”
She added
“We’re getting past the need for labels. It’s beautiful.”
