Kerry Washington Faces Backlash After Tweeting ‘Anybody Else Wondering What DMX & Prince Philip Are Chatting About At The Pearly Gates?’ + Later Deletes Tweet
Kerry Washington’s tweet about late legendary rapper DMX and the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip has garnered lots of criticism.
The Little Fires Everywhere actress joined the conversation amid news that both men passed away.
She tweeted,
“Anybody else wondering what DMX and His Royal Highness Prince Phillip [sic] are chatting about together at the pearly gates?”
She added,
“My love to both their families. May they both Rest In Peace.”

While she later deleted the tweet, fans still criticized her for the message.

DMX’s family confirmed his tragic passing Friday (April 9th), roughly a week after he suffered a heart attack. They said in a statement,
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
The royal family released a statement on the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing as well.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
DMX was 50 years old. Prince Philip was 99.
