After her show, rumors sparked that Saweetie kept the donation money from her performance. While on Instagram Live, she was questioned about whether or not she was asking for money at the impromptu show, considering there was a ‘tip’ money jar set up alongside the performance bench. Saweetie responded with:
“No girl, I wasn’t asking for no money yesterday. Actually, like I know I said rent is due and blah blah blah, but yesterday was a spur of the moment thing and it was fun.”
She described what prompted her to perform for surprised fans:
“We were at the Santa Monica Pier and I saw this upcoming artist singing with his microphone, and I was like, I got a new single and I’m gonna perform for my fans because I love them so much.”
Saweetie claims that all proceeds collected from the tip jar were given to the upcoming artist. She said:
“I got my own money, y’all quit playing with me.”
