Mo’Nique Criticizes Black Women Wearing Bonnets & Pajamas In Public: When Did We Lose Pride In Representing Ourselves? [VIDEO]
Mo’Nique seemingly isn’t here for black women dressing too casually in public places. Comedian/actress Mo’Nique recently shared online a video of herself criticizing black women for wearing bonnets, scarves, slippers, and pajamas outside the comfort of their homes. In the video she said,
“Some of ya’ll have given me the title of auntie and I’m honored. But there are times that auntie gotta talk to her babies and say some real sh*t.”
She continued and shared how during a recent traveling trip she saw women wearing what she considers to be questionable attire in the airport.
“And as we begin to walk through the airport I saw so many, actually too many to count and too many for me to tap, but I saw so many of our young sisters in head bonnets, scarves, slippers, pajamas, blankets wrapped around them. And this is how they’re showing up to the airport.”
She added that she’s witnessed women dress like that in more places than just the airport and asked her fans
“When did we lose pride in representing ourselves?”
During the 5-minute video, Mo’Nique explained her point of view and said that she’s not calling for women to be in a full face of makeup or have a lacefront on while in public. However, she emphasized,
“All I’m saying is could you please comb your hair?”
She added,
“I’m not saying you don’t have pride but the representation that you’re showing someone will have to ask you to know if you have it.”
Before the video ended the Academy-Award-winning actress warned her supporters and let them know if she catches them in public looking like ‘what the f*ck’ she’d going to tap them and say,
“Hey baby girl, show you what you’re worth.”
“Cause if you look like you don’t give a d*mn, how are you going to be treated?”
Many people took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Mo’Nique’s commentary.
