Actor Clarence Williams III Passes Away From Colon Cancer At 81 [CONDOLENCES]
At 81 years of age, Clarence Williams III has died.
News of the actor’s passing broke yesterday (Sunday, June 6th), though he died two days before. Clarence Williams III‘s manager, Allan Mindel, confirmed the loss–explaining the actor succumbed to his colon cancer and passed away in his L.A. home on Friday, June 4th.
With a career spanning from the 1960s to the 21st century, Clarence Williams III starred in many prominent acting roles. One of the star’s most well-known gigs was as Prince‘s father in the 1984 film Purple Rain.
Additionally, Williams was acclaimed for his contributions to the thriller Deep Cover and the comedy I’m Gonna Git You Sucka–among a plethora of other movies.
Aside from his prominent film roles, Clarence Williams III was also known for his contributions to various television series. Arguably, his most well-known T.V. role was as “Linc” in the crime drama The Mod Squad. Additionally, he appeared in various other shows–including Miami Vice, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Everybody Hates Chris.
In response to his passing, various other stars paid tribute to the actor. Musician Lenny Kravitz tweeted:
“When I was a kid growing up in NYC Clarence Williams III was a face on TV that I identified with and inspired me. From the Mod Squad, to Purple Rain and Sugar Hill, he always performed with dynamic energy. Rest in power, king.”

Additionally, director and actor Rusty Cundieff tweeted:
“My sadness at the passing of Clarence Williams III cannot be overstated. His artistry and sheer coolness was extraordinary. I will forever be in his debt for his brilliant performance in Tales from the Hood. Loved working with him! Blessed travels good sir!”
