Raven-Symone Turned Down Lesbian Storyline For Disney’s Raven’s Home: ‘Raven Baxter Is Raven Baxter’
Raven-Symone rejoined Disney in 2017 for a continuation of her original show about a teen psychic, Thats So Raven. Raven’s Home follows a divorced Raven Baxter raising her two kids while living with her best friend Chelsea along with her son. The show has had 4 seasons already and now the 35-year-old is revealing that Disney offered to make the main character a lesbian.
In real life Raven-Symone came out as a lesbian around 2013 and married Miranda Pearman-Maday in a small ceremony in 2020.

Reportedly, the former Disney teen star, was asked if she wanted the character to be a lesbian. When asked, she reportedly said,
“The reason I said, no, wasn’t because I wasn’t proud of who I was, or I didn’t want to represent the LGBTQ+ community in any way. It was because Raven Baxter is Raven Baxter is Raven Baxter. There was no reason for me to change the human that she was in order to fit the actress that played her. And Raven Baxter is a character that I was proud to play. Even if she is straight, cisgender, I don’t mind, let her have her moment.”
She went on to talk about how she’s sterotyped because of the Disney role and doesn’t need another thing that makes her similar to her character.
“Like, I’m stereotyped for the rest of my life. Let’s just keep it 100. You know what I mean? If you ever see me in another character, you see Raven Baxter, and that’s just what the deal is. I think the one thing that differentiates me from her is now a lot more.”
Raven-Symone seems to be proud to play her character as is and still has a lot of pride in her own sexuality.
What do you think about Raven’s decision to avoid the lesbian storyline? Let us know in the comments.
