Laurence Fishburne Fans Upset After The Actor Was Not Featured In New Trailer For ‘The Matrix Resurrections’

Laurence Fishburne fans may have gotten a rude awakening while watching the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections!

Earlier today (Thursday, Sept. 9th), the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections was unveiled. The Matrix Resurrections is The Matrix franchise’s fourth film. Notably, it is the first The Matrix film since 2003, and it is the first film in the series to not feature Laurence Fishburne. The 60-year-old actor has starred as Morpheus in the series since its inception back in 1999.

Laurence Fishburne first spoke on his exit from the franchise last year. He revealed:

“I have not been invited. Maybe that will make me write another play. I wish them well. I hope it’s great.”

He later claimed had no idea why he wasn’t invited to reprise his iconic role as Morpheus:

“I am not in the next Matrix movie and you know, you’d have to ask [director] Lana Wachowski why, ’cause I don’t have an answer for that.”

Now, the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections has dropped–and it’s reminding fans that Laurence Fishburne will not appear in the film. Judging by the trailer, it appears as though actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is playing the role of a younger Morpheus.
