Some fans were shocked to see the “Kiss Me More” singer and songwriter, Doja Cat, take home the win for favorite R&B over Jazmine Sullivan, HER and Jhene Aiko.

Fans quickly rushed to social media in disbelief and started to discuss the reasoning behind Doja Cat winning in an R&B category.
Some fans mentioned the fact that Doja Cat is being placed into a box due to colorism. Online users are speculating that just because the artist is black, she’s being self categorized as R&B.
Other were shocked that Doja Cat beat out her fellow nominees and felt as if their favorite artists were robbed.
One fan commented,
“The AMA really racist. They put Doja Cat in R&B even though she’s clearly pop. The literally throw all black artist in two categories, Rap or R&B smh.”
