Dwyane Wade Says Michael Jordan Will No Longer Be Considered The ‘GOAT’ By The Younger Generation: They’re Gonna Forget About Jordan

When it comes to sports, one of the biggest debates is which athlete is considered the greatest of all time aka the “GOAT”. When it comes to basketball, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Lebron James are typically mentioned. However, former NBA player Dwyane Wade, predicts that with the way the game is evolving, the younger generation will forget about some of the legends we once cheered for. On a recent episode of the “Armchair Expert” podcast, Wade expressed that in time, Michael Jordan’s once undeniable ‘GOAT’ status will ultimately become irrelevant to the next wave of fans, similar to NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

During the episode, Dwyane Wade said,

“We’re not gonna be the ones having a conversation about the GOATs. Now it’s going to be the younger, younger, younger generation. And they’re gonna forget about Jordan like we forget about Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar].”

Respectfully, Wade acknowledge the major difference between Michael Jordan and everyone else. He called Jordan the “first icon in basketball” due to his global appeal and reach of the Jordan Brand from the sneakers, movie deals, endorsements, etc. Wade also acknowledged that while Jordan is indeed a legend,  the players of today are much better than even when he played, let alone Michael Jordan’s era.

“I watch players play today and, like, I thought I was good … [but] they’re way better than me…The game continues to keep moving forward, and so we’re going to continue to see things we’ve never seen before. And the eyes are gonna get younger and younger.”

Dwyane Wade was a 13-time All-Star and three-time NBA champion. He helped Miami win its first NBA title even before the ‘Big 3’ with Lebron James and Chris Bosh was formed. He finished his career with 23,165 points and retired in 2019 after a 16-year-career with the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers.

While the GOAT debates are entertaining, it truly comes down to your generation and who you grew up on and identify with the most. Sadly, legends such as, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and Charles Barkley barely get mentioned anymore by the younger generation.
