Kyrie Irving In Talks To Partner w/ New Shoe Company Following Nike Split, According To Musiq Soulchild

Kyrie Irving isn’t letting being dropped by Nike keep him out of the show game!

After securing a pair of kicks at SIA Collective this week in Los Angeles, Musiq Soulchild revealed that Brooklyn Nets basketball player Kyrie Irving is working on a potential deal with a new shoe company following his terminated partnership with Nike.

Musiq Soulchild, real name Taalib Hassan Johnson, said sources announced that Kyrie Irving and Carter, founder of the “Somewhere In America” brand based in Oakland, California, have been speaking about a future collaboration. The “B.U.D.D.Y” singer added:

“I think that will be an awesome decision.”

Kyrie Irving initially joined the Nike family in 2014 and soon after released his signature Kyrie 1 sneaker. At the time, he was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, since his recent split from Nike, he has been candid about his search for a new shoe partnership.

On Dec. 5 he took to Twitter to seemingly express his feelings about no longer working with the giant corporation. The basketball player shared a meme stating:

“There’s nothing more priceless than being free.”

He also covered the Nike logo on sneakers worn during a game on Dec. 7 with messages that read “I AM FREE” and “Logo Here.”

Nike, Kyrie Irving

As previously reported, earlier this month NBA insider Shams Charania took to Twitter to announce that Nike decided to cut ties with the 30-year-old athlete. The shocking news came after Kyrie faced backlash and a brief team suspension for tweeting a link to a film many have deemed as antisemitic. The film, titled “Hebrews To Negros: Wake Up Black America,” is accused of displaying “Jewish stereotypes and antisemitic tropes.”
