Idris Elba’s Name Has Been “Part Of The Conversation” For Next James Bond Successor
Doesn’t “My name’s Elba, Idris Elba” just roll off the tongue?
With the end of the Daniel Craig-James Bond era, following the iconic character’s death in No Time To Die (2021), there have been many conversations about who will be the next 007.
The franchise seems to be never-ending. There have been seven actors who played the legendary character for their respective Bond-era’s since 1962: Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.
Fans have been suggesting Idris Ebla be the successor of Daniel Craig for many years, as many believe that the mysteriously dark nature of the actor would allow him to perfectly portray the British superspy. (Read more at The Jasmine Brand)
According to producer Barbara Broccoli, Idris Elba is a contestant for continuing the 007 franchise, but it is too soon to officially pass the torch to the actor.
“Well, we know Idris, we’re friends with him, and he’s a magnificent actor. And, you know, it’s been part of the conversation, but it’s always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat… I think we have decided that until No Time to Die has had its run and Daniel has been able to – well, we’ve all been able to savour, reap the benefits of Daniel’s wonderful tenure, we’re not gonna think about, or talk about anybody else.”
Though nothing is set in stone, Barbara Broccoli does hint at the possibility of Idris Elba being able to play the historically-white character with the statement :
“(Bond) should be British, so British can be any [ethnicity or race].”
Sources say that Tom Holland and Dwayne Johnson have also expressed interest in the role of James Bond. Unfortunately, there is no information about the next James Bond, but we’re sure whoever is selected for the famous role will be just what the character needs.
