Lizzo Says ‘I Like Being Fat’ As She Addresses Criticism For Being A Plus Size Entertainer
Lizzo has no plans on subscribing to anybody’s beauty standards but her own!
Lizzo, born Melissa Jefferson, has become a household name over the past few years. The 33-year-old entertainer often finds herself trending due to her hit music, quirky behavior on TikTok, or people’s unwarranted opinions about her body. During a recent interview, Lizzo addressed the things critics have to say about her physical appearance and shared that she’s happy with the way she looks. She said,
“It doesn’t bother me. I like being fat, and I’m beautiful and I’m healthy. So can we move on?”
She continued and shared that she wants other bigger women to also be “freed” from harsh stereotypes, such as being labeled “the funny, fat friend” or
“the friend who is gonna beat your a** ’cause she’s big.”
She added,
“I think I have a really hot body! I’m a body icon, and I’m embracing that more and more every day,”
Lizzo then touched on how she hopes to change the current beauty standards. She said that her body,
“may not be one person’s ideal body type just like, say, Kim Kardashian might not be someone’s ideal, but she’s a body icon and has created a modern-day beauty standard. And what I’m doing is stepping into my confidence and my power to create my own beauty standard.”
