WNBA Star Brittney Griner Pictured For The First Time Since Arrest, Alleged Mugshot Released By Russian Media Outlet
Brittney Griner is seen for the first time since her arrest in Russia early February.
The alleged mug shot was reportedly aired by Russian state media over the weekend on their state-owned news channel, Russia 24 – and comes after multiple new outlets reported that no one had publicly seen the Phoenix Mercury star since her arrest on February 5th.
Late last week we reported that WNBA champion Brittney Griner was being detained in Moscow, Russia for carrying a vape cartridge that allegedly contained hash oil, according to Russian officials. The Russian government initially did not give the name of the American basketball player being held at their jail site, however a month after the arrest, a Russian state owned news outlet identified the player as 31-year-old WNBA star Brittney Griner, and released video footage of the moment Russian officials allegedly found the cannabis oil in Brittney’s luggage.
The all-stars arrest happened at the most inopportune time as tensions and sanctions continue to grow between the U.S. and Russia, due to Russia’s full fledged assault attempting to conquer the Ukraine. It’s also reported that the two time Olympic champion is now being investigated for drug trafficking and if found guilty, could face up to 10 years in a Russian prison.

While Russian state TV alleges that the mugshot was recently taken of the basketball star, American media outlets have pointed out specifics that make the photo questionable. Such as the photo having no timestamp – leaving the date and time of the photo being taken unconfirmed, as well as the inability to confirm what is written across the paper in Brittney’s hands.
