‘Superfly’ Actor Kaalan Walker Begins Rape Trial, Prosecutors Call Entertainer A ‘Digital Age’ Serial Rapist
‘Superfly’ Actor Kaalan Walker Begins Rape Trial
The long-awaited trial surrounding Kaalan Walker’s multiple sexual assault charges and rape allegations has officially kicked off.
According to reports, actor/rapper Kaalan Walker, 26, appeared in a Los Angeles County courtroom on Tuesday (March 8) to make his case against the serious sexual assault accusations he’s currently facing, some of which date back to 2013. He reportedly pled not guilty to 6 counts of forcible rape (2 of those relating to minors), 2 counts of rape by an intoxicating substance, unlawful intercourse with a minor, sexual penetration by force, and other felonies connected to 11 alleged victims. Kaalan Walker is facing life in prison if convicted.
As previously reported, in 2018 Walker was arrested after police claimed he used his celebrity status to lure several aspiring models and musicians to meet with him under the promise he would help them with their careers. Instead, the “Kings” actor reportedly took advantage of the women and raped them.
Initially, Walker was reportedly charged with 9 separate counts of felony sexual assault charges and was being held on a $1,080,000 bond, according to reports. However, last April he was released on reduced bail due to COVID-19. To date, over 30 women have reportedly accused Walker of sexual assault.
During the trial, prosecutors reportedly referred to Walker as a “digital age” serial rapist who used the “little blue checkmark” on his social accounts to search for aspiring entertainers online and lower their defenses in a series of sexual attacks. Deputy District Attorney Yasmin Fardghassemi told jurors,
“You’re going to be introduced to the real Kaalan Walker, the man behind the movies. you’re going to see a dark side to him — a side that each of these women saw. You’re going to see that he’s a con artist, a predator who used his limited industry success to bait and trap these young girls, lure them to locations where they were alone, where he was in control, where they were vulnerable.”
Fardghassemi continued,
“So when he contacted [the victims] on [social media], offering them jobs, when they saw that little blue checkmark, they thought it was a legitimate gig. They thought they were being booked for a job, or that they were getting a free photoshoot — that he actually was what he was purporting to be. They fell for it.”
She added,
“You’re going to learn that he overpowered them by making them feel upset, nervous, confused, anxious and frozen in fear. He sent them into a state of shock where their bodies were frozen in fear. When they said ‘No,’ he kept going. When they said ‘Stop,’ he didn’t care.”
Fardghassemi also mentioned how jurors can expect to hear from 10 or 11 of the 30 alleged victims whose allegations led to charges in the case. In addition to that, 3 other women with similar claims against Walker from 2014, that didn’t lead to an official charge, will reportedly testify as well.
However, Walker’s defense attorney, Andrew Flier, said in his opening statement that his client is innocent and the 11 alleged victims are all “lying” for “revenge” because they regret sleeping with Walker. He said,
“They’re going to lie to you because they know that they fell for his BS. That’s what this case is about. He made false promises, and they fell for it, and now it’s time for revenge.”
He added,
“They gave up their integrity and their bodies, and that’s why they’re here in spite. It’s payback to Mr. Walker.”
