This week, A&E Network cleared the first official Ol’ Dirty Bastard biopic, a two-hour documentary focused on the late Wu-Tang Clan founding member’s upbringing and short but impactful career.

Russell Tyrone Jones, credibly known as Ol’ Dirty Bastard or ODB, was a rapper who influenced the hip hop industry through his profane, care-free lyrics and bold personality. With frequent run-ins into legal trouble, including incarceration, the wild life eventually caught up to Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Ol’ Dirty Bastard passed away in November 2004 of an accidental drug overdose, two days before his 36th birthday.
A&E Networks has the worldwide distribution rights for the documentary titled, Biography: Ol’ Dirty Bastard. The film will be produced by Pulse Films— responsible for Beastie Boys Story, Beyoncé’s Lemonade and Katy Perry’s Part of Me, Four Screens and the Ol’ Dirty Bastard Estate, providing exclusive rights to never-before-seen personal archival footage filmed by ODB’s wife Icelene Jones. Biography: Ol’ Dirty Bastard will be directed by Sam Pollard (MLK/FBI, Black Art: In the Absence of Light) and his son Jason Pollard (Get Me Roger Stone, Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James).
“I am thrilled to tell the full story of my husband. With this documentary the world will learn about the son, the husband, the father and the artist,” said Jones. “I’m proud of the team that we built, including Pulse, my producing partners Nicole Beckett and Messiah Jacobs at Four Screens, and our directing team, the Pollards.”
Sam Bridger and Diene Pettrle will lead as executive producers while Louis Mole as producer for Pulse Films. Messiah Jacobs, Nicole Beckett and Icelene Jones will lead as the executive producers representing Four Screens and the Ol’ Dirty Bastard Estate. Elaine Frontain Bryant and Brad Abramson will lead as executive producers for A&E Network.
The film is expected to debut next year, will you be tuning in? Let us know below!
