Anita Baker Says Chance The Rapper Helped Her Buy Her Masters From Former Label

Anita Baker is giving a special shoutout to Chance The Rapper!

During a recent performance in Las Vegas, Anita Baker took the time to thank Chicago native, Chance The Rapper for helping her regain control of her master recordings. While onstage, the legendary singer addressed the “We Go High” rapper who was in attendance. Anita Baker said,

“Would you guys say hello to a friend of mine by way of [the] music industry, by way of helping me get a hold and ownership of my master records, Mister Chance The Rapper is right there.”

Chance The Rapper took to social media to share his excitement over seeing Anita Baker live in concert. He wrote,

“I saw one of THE greatest performances of my LIFETIME last night! Thank you so much @IAMANITABAKER for being an inspiration and an icon to so many of US.”

Baker responded and said,

“Had no idea you would be in our Midst. Such a nice Surprise. Brought Tears, to my eyes. Hope Ms. Essence enjoyed her Birthday.”

As previously reported, Anita Baker was in a long term dispute with her former label, Elektra Records, to gain ownership of her masters. Although her artist contracts had expired, she had not yet been given her masters. As a result, she asked fans not to stream or buy her music until the dispute had been rectified.

However, in September 2021, the legendary singer gave fans the green light to start streaming her music again as she apparently resolved the issue and came out victorious. The ‘Sweet Love’ singer took to twitter to share the good news with her fans. She posted a photo with her five studio albums and wrote,

“All My Children Are Coming Home. Impossible Things Happen… Every. Single. Day. Gratefully.”
