Jay-Z & Jack Dorsey Announce Launch Of ‘Bitcoin Academy,’ A Financial Literacy Program, For Residents Of Rapper’s Childhood Brooklyn Neighborhood

Jay-Z doesn’t play games when it comes to his business ventures!

Hip-Hop legend Jay-Z and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, 45, are collaborating to launch a financial literacy program for residents of the Marcy Houses complex in Brooklyn, New York where Jay-Z, 52, was born and raised.

On Thursday (June 9) it was announced that the program will offer online classes as well as in-person classes with dinner being served during the lessons. Residents who participate in the program will receive smartphones, MiFi devices, and data plans. Residents will be allowed to keep their devices after they complete the program. Children living in Marcy projects will be able to participate in “Crypto Kids Camp” for two Saturdays.

Gloria Carter, Jay-Z’s mother, stated:

“The Shawn Carter Foundation has always been about providing educational access and opening doors of opportunity to underserved communities. No one should be left out or behind. We truly appreciate the partnership with Block and Jack Dorsey to bring financial, specifically bitcoin education to the Marcy residents, where I spent many years raising my family.”

Classes will begin on June 22nd and will end on September 7th. Residents will take courses such as;  “what is money?” “what is cryptocurrency?” ”what is blockchain?” and “how to keep yourself safe from scammers.”

Jay-Z spoke on his latest project and stated:

“Everyone should be empowered to make informed financial decisions in order to take care of themselves and their families.”

This isn’t the first time the businessmen have teamed up on a project. Last year, Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey created an endowment to fund bitcoin’s development in Africa and India. The two put together $23.6 million into the endowment fund.
