Lil Nas X Details ‘Painful And Strained’ Relationship W/ BET After Being Snubbed For 2022 Awards Show Nominations
From the looks of things, Lil Nas X and BET will not be making amends any time soon.
The fallout has been brewing for more than a year now, with the latest issue stemming from Lil Nas X‘s feelings that he was snubbed for a BET Award after receiving zero nominations.
Lil Nas X said,
“My relationship with BET has been painful and strained for quite some time. It didn’t start with this year’s nominations like most people might think,”
He continued,
“They did let me perform on their show last year, but only after [I gave] assurances that I was not a satanist or devil worshiper, and that my performance would be appropriate for their audience.”
The “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” artist hit the BET Awards stage in 2021, where he ended up locking lips with one of his male backup dancers—a move certain network producers were supposedly not here for.
As previously reported, Lil Nas X didn’t really care for the BET Awards nominees this year. In fact, he sarcastically thanked the network for, once again, receiving zero nominations.

In response to a Twitter critic asking what content he has put out, Lil Nas X said,
“idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album. I feel like that should’ve helped me a bit.”
He added,
“not even that, doesn’t even have to be me nominated. I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”

BET is singing a different tune though, saying Lil Nas X‘s recollection of events around the 2021 awards is “simply untrue.” According to a spokesperson,
“Since last year’s performance, we have been in touch to work on other projects. We are still excited about his previous performances and continue to wish him well. But today, we are focused on culture’s biggest night and delivering history-making moments for fans worldwide.”
“F*ck BET, F*ck BET, F*ck BET, f*ck BET. Lick it on up, slurp it. Make it sloppy, ok, ok, ok, ok. Look at how I top sh*t. I just put like three up in the top 10, and I don’t need nobody. I just need these ccs on my body. Everything I do be tryna run, go make a profit. Read about it.”
The two-time Grammy-winning rapper is shown accepting awards on multiple stages in the video, which was manipulated to appear like an official BET advertisement for the award presentation.
