DJ Jazzy Jeff has chimed in on the viral incident between his close friend Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars months ago.
During a recent guest appearance on the “FAQ Podcast,” rapper/actor DJ Jazzy Jeff discussed Will Smith’s book along with the actor’s composure he’s sustained over the span of their 40-year friendship.
In addition, DJ Jazzy Jeff, born Jeffrey Townes, said his friend Will Smith, 53, ultimately had a “very bad lack in judgement” when he slapped host Chris Rock, 57, at the Academy Awards earlier this year. While chatting with Frequently Asked Questions Podcast hosts, Jazzy Jeff, 57, began with:
“I’ve known Will almost 40 years. I know hundreds of times that I looked at him and I was like ‘I do not know how you’ve held it together.’”

He added:
“[So] I think that all of this was a very bad lack in judgement.”
As previously reported, Jazzy Jeff stuck up for his friend Will Smith initially following the backlash he received from his Oscar moment — making this the second time that Jazzy Jeff has spoken out regarding the incident.

The two have been friends since the early ‘80s. Jazzy Jeff and Smith (a.k.a. Fresh Prince) were a Grammy-winning hip-hop duo from West Philadelphia from 1986 to 1994. The entertainers then went on to star in ‘90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which aired for six seasons from 1990 until 1996.
The infamous incident is still making its rounds months later after Smith walked on stage during the live Academy Awards and slapped Chris Rock on March 27. The controversial move took place shortly after Rock made what some believe to be an insensitive joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s, 50, bald head, which she rocks due to an autoimmune disorder called alopecia.

As a result of hitting Rock, Smith was banned from attending any Oscar award ceremonies for the next 10 years.
