Donald Trump Allegedly Threatened Trade War With Sweden Over A$AP Rocky’s 2019 Incarceration
Former Donald Trump allegedly threatened Sweden with “trade restrictions” over the 2019 arrest of ASAP Rocky!
According to reports, Morgan Johansson—Sweden’s Minister for Justice and Home Affairs—recently opened up about Donald Trump’s alleged bullying and threats to impose trade restrictions if ASAP Rocky (real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers) wasn’t released from jail immediately. Johansson added,
“If you can try and do something like this against Sweden, what will you then try and do to slightly weaker countries that don’t have the European Union behind them?”
When ASAP Rocky was locked up, Donald Trump and his team allegedly sent a letter to Sweden, warning of “negative consequences” for the two nations’ relations if Sweden kept Rocky incarcerated.
As previously reported, in July 2019 rapper ASAP Rocky was arrested, following an incident in Sweden. The rapper and three of his friends were arrested shortly after he hit the stage for a music festival in Stockholm. The footage of the incident shows Rocky and his friends throw a man to the ground outside of a restaurant, punching and kicking him. ASAP says in the video,
“Just for the cameras, we don’t want no problems with these boys, they keep following us.”
The ‘Praise The Lord’ rapper claimed the fight started after two men had been harassing him and his crew and hurling racial slurs at them. ASAP was held in a Sweden jail for more than a month.
Donald Trump had been informed of the situation by his friend Kanye West, and quickly became a vocal supporter of ASAP. The former President instructed his State Department to advocate for Rocky, and he also tweeted his support of the rapper being released. He wrote:
“Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Lofven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly. #FreeRocky.”
