Update: ‘Black-ish’ Writer Jak Knight’s Cause Of Death Has Been Ruled A Suicide [Condolences]
Update: Jak Knight’s cause of death has been confirmed following an autopsy by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner. According to reports, the 28-year-old was found on a Los Angeles Calif. embankment on July 14 suffering from a gunshot wound. His cause of death has been ruled a suicide by the coroner.
Original Story: Jak Knight, a writer, comedian, and actor known for his work in the Netflix animated series “Big Mouth” and ABC sitcom “Black-ish,” has died. He was 28 years old at the time of his death.
According to reports, Jak Knight’s family announced that he passed away on Thursday night (July 14) in Los Angeles. A cause of death was not given, nor were the circumstances surrounding his death. The family has asked for privacy.

Jak Knight’s tragic death caught Hollywood by surprise as fellow comedians mourn the loss of the rising star. Knight’s work in Hollywood included voicing the character of DeVon in Netflix’s adult sitcom “Big Mouth,” as well as serving as a writer for five seasons for the animation. He’s also credited as a writer for the ABC hit show “Black-ish.”
As far as Knight’s latest work, he executive produced, co-created, and starred in Peacock’s comedy series “Bust Down.” The show premiered in March and follows a group of four friends working low-wage jobs at a casino in Gary, Indiana. The series was only in its first season.
As a young comedian, Knight had already toured around the world performing standup comedy and even opened for the likes of Dave Chappelle. He was named a Comedy Central Comic to Watch in 2014 and he appeared on the Netflix standup series “The Comedy Lineup” in 2018.
