NBA Legend Bill Russell Passes Away At The Age Of 88 [Condolences]
The basketball community has lost another legend.
According to reports, NBA superstar Bill Russell passed away today (July 31) at the age of 88. The official social media accounts for the retired athlete released a statement on his death. In part, the post said,
“Bill Russell, the most prolific winner in American sports history, passed away peacefully today at age 88, with his wife Jeannine by his side.”

Bill Russell played center professionally from 1956 to 1969 and led the Boston Celtics to 11 NBA Championships, which is reportedly more than any other player in NBA history.
In addition to that, Bill Russell has many other accomplishments under his belt, including, 2 NBA Championships as a coach, 2 NCAA Championships, and 5 NBA MVP awards. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1975 and was one of the founding inductees into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
Former president Barack Obama awarded Bill Russell the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011 for his accomplishments on the court and in the civil rights movement.
