Mindy Kaling Explains Why She Wishes Parents Of College Women ‘Would Take Them to Freeze Their Eggs’ Instead of Gifting Them Jewelry & Vacations
Mindy Kaling is advocating for women to freeze their eggs at a younger age!
The actress, producer, and writer recently opened up about her life struggles and experiencing motherhood in her 40s. During a recent interview, Mindy Kaling, 43, spoke about her experience freezing her eggs and the privileges of being able to start her parenthood journey later in life. She said,
“I waited until I had the means and that made all the difference. The choice to have a child — by yourself, on your own terms — it was the best part of my life.”

The Mindy Project creator also noted that her choice to raise children on her own is one she hopes more women can “feel confident doing.” However, she also understands what societal, financial, and other support would be required to give any woman that flexibility. Freezing your eggs while young is something Mindy Kaling feels could give young women more freedom to make choices about their careers and how/when they decide to start their families.
Mindy explained,
“I wish every 19-year-old girl would come home from college and that the gift — instead of buying them jewelry or a vacation or whatever — is that their parents would take them to freeze their eggs. They could do that once and have all these eggs for them, for their futures…”
She continued,
“To focus in your 20s and 30s on your career, and yes, love, but to know that when you’re emotionally ready, and, if you don’t have a partner, you can still have children.”
This topic is especially important in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. As previously reported, the Supreme Court announced on Friday, June 23, that they would be overturning the landmark decision, which granted women the federal constitutional right to an abortion. Critics of the ruling are now concerned about the future of women’s reproductive rights.
Two weeks after the ruling, President Joe Biden signed an executive order to maintain access to reproductive health services.
While President Joe Biden is powerless to restore the right to an abortion on a national level, the executive order makes an effort to, among other things, protect access to emergency contraception and medication abortion and strengthen the security and legal options available to those seeking and providing abortion services.
