Are the odds going to be in Viola Davis’ favor?
Famed actress Viola Davis, 57, is headed to the Panem nation for The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. According to reports, Viola Davis has signed on to play Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the mastermind (gamemaker) of the sinister death-match. She’ll be joined by Tom Blyth, 27, as young Coriolanus Snow, West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler, 21, as tribute Lucy Gray Baird, Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer, 23, as Snow’s cousin and confidante Tigris Snow and Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage, 53, as Academy dean Casca Highbottom.
Nathan Kahane, the president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, spoke on Viola Davis joining the popular Hunger Games franchise and said,
“From the beginning, Viola has been our dream for Dr. Gaul because of the finely layered intelligence and emotion she brings to every role. A brilliant and eccentric strategist, Gaul is instrumental in shaping a young Coriolanus Snow into the man he will become. We are incredibly fortunate to have an actor with Viola’s extraordinary range and presence to play this pivotal role.”

As you may already know, The Hunger Games is a science fiction dystopian adventure film series that stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen. The popular series centers around the nation of Panem, which was divided into 12 districts that are ruled by the Capitol. Every year each district is forced to select two teenage tributes, one boy and one girl, to fight to the death in the Hunger Games until there is only one survivor. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes debuts in theaters worldwide on Nov. 17, 2023.
