Recently, Jermaine Dupri took it to Instagram to share a video of him clarifying claims made by producer Self Service about him not making his own beats. Record executive Jermaine Dupri explained:
“So we in the studio and my n*gga Rocko just sent me this video of this producer named Self Service, I guess that’s his name. And he was saying that Irv Gotti took credit for ‘Get At Me Dog’ beat. Is that the beat? I thought Grease did it okay, whatever I don’t know these DMX records.”
The 49-year-old continued:
“He said in the 90’s, that it was a going thing for producers with a name to take n*gg*s beats right? And he named Irv Gotti, he named Puff Daddy and he was about to say DNY and I guess he thought how they was gon’ beat his *ss so he didn’t say they name. But he did say my name.”
Dupri exclaimed:
“N*gg* get the f*ck outta here with that sh*t right?”
Rocko explained in the video that in the 90s producers stealing beats and taking credit was usually the topic of conversation in the music industry.
The father of one added:
“By the way, that might be true, but my n*gg* Self Service, or whoever the f*ck you is, that don’t come over here, don’t bring that sh*t over here with me. I make my beats, I write my songs. Me and Brown we work together, this is what the f*ck we do. Leave that sh*t to somebody else. And for anybody else out there thinking that, keep that sh*t over there where ya’ll at! We make records over here, n*gg*s go in the studio and do what the f*ck we gotta do. If you ain’t never seen me in the studio, then don’t make that statement about me man. Get your information right.”

In an interview, producer Self Service called out producers that allegedly stole beats, including beats he worked on, in the past. Self Service disclaimed:
“He [Irv Gotti] took credit for the “What’s My Name?” record. He didn’t do nothing on that beat.”
Self Service continued:
“Look let me tell you, the going thing back then was, Puff did it, Irv did it I think DNY, nah not DNY. Puff, Irv, Jermaine Dupri, certain n*gg*s that had them names and everybody thought they was the n*gg*s, they was just getting beats from other n*gg*s.”
