Wendy Williams Was ‘At Death’s Door’ Due To Alcohol Addiction Before Her Friends Intervened To Help Save Her Life: She Was Not Responsive, She Was In A Catatonic State
Wendy Williams’ friends reportedly helped her live to see another day!
According to reports, media mogul Wendy Williams almost passed away in 2020 and received two blood transfusions during a hospital stay due to her deteriorating alcohol addiction. At that time, DJ Boof and others allegedly found Wendy Williams “catatonic” at her apartment in New York City. Her former manager Bernie Young reportedly refused to call 911 out of fear that Wendy would make headlines. A friend and eyewitness of the former daytime talk show host said:
“I don’t think he understood the extent of what was going on, and I don’t think he wanted it to get out that she was not well, and he definitely didn’t want a 911 call like what happened a year later.”
According to the source, the 58-year-old’s apartment was in disarray due to her addiction and poor health. The source continued:
“It was pretty much a mess. It was a mess.”
The source shared:
“She was in her robe, it was soiled, she was catatonic, she was in a very, very bad state. She was looking at the ceiling. She was just not responsive, but her eyes were open, but she was definitely in a catatonic state.”
The source added:
“We started clearing out a lot of liquor.”
According to the insider, they and DJ Boof insisted 911 be called to the scene or Wendy’s former sober team be brought in to help. While they waited for assistance, DJ Boof allegedly fed the New Jersey native ice chips to keep her hydrated. The source reflected:
“She’s going to die. She literally couldn’t stand up.”
The source recalled:
“She was just lying on top of the covers, and she needed 911 help, and Young’s like, ‘We’re not getting 911.’”
Kevin Hunter, Wendy’s ex-husband, and their son, Kevin Hunter Jr., were called and begged her to get help. The source shared:
“Kevin and Kevin Jr. were both saying, ‘Please, come on, Mom. Let [Ron and his team] come up.’”
According to sources, Boof drove Wendy to the hospital, where she received two blood transfusions because of her low iron levels. She remained under medical observation for four to five days and couldn’t remember any of the events that had transpired. A source said:
“Boof was the savior of her f–king life.”
The source continued:
“She was really, in my opinion, at death’s door.”
The eyewitness added:
“If we were not there that day, she would not be here. She would not have made it. If it weren’t for Kevin and Ron Clinton and his team, she wouldn’t have made it.”
Shawn Zanotti, Wendy’s publicist, said:
“The focus is not on anything from her past. The only focus we have at this time is for Wendy to continue to strive at getting better and moving forward.”
Shawn Zanotti added:
“Right now she is healing and working on the second part to her documentary and her podcast, she has several things that are demanding her attention right now and past gossip is not one of them.”
As previously reported, the “How You Doin’?” host, who left her eponymous talk show after 13 years, temporarily relocated to Florida to be closer to her son and receive treatment at a wellness facility. Reports shared that Wednesday (Sept. 14) she checked back into a rehab facility to receive treatment for her addiction issues. Another source said:
“It’s gotten worse, she went from wine to straight-up vodka.”
Will Selby, Wendy’s rep, said on Friday (Sept. 16) that she’s “sounding better and better every day.” Will Selby revealed:
“Her vitality and motivation is at an all-time high considering what she is going through.”
He added:
“All she talks about is her upcoming projects with ‘The Wendy Williams Experience’ and her new documentary slated to come in 2023.”
