Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Reboot Starring Mahershala Ali Placed On Hold As Production Searches For A New Director
Those who have waited 20 years for a new Blade movie will have to wait a little longer.
According to reports, Marvel Studios temporarily shut down production in Atlanta for Blade: The Trinity while they search for a new director — ultimately delaying the film’s release. The initial director of the project was Bassam Tariq.
Marvel Studios said in a statement,
“Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Tariq is no longer moving forward as director of Blade but will remain as executive producer on the film.”
Bassam Tariq announced at the end of September that he would exit the role of director and only remain as the film’s executive producer.
In a statement, Bassam Tariq shared this,
“It’s been an honor working with the wonderful folks at Marvel. We were able to put together a killer cast and crew. Eager to see where the next director takes the film.”
Marvel Studios nor Bassam Tariq have confirmed the reason behind his exit from Blade: The Trinity.
The movie is set to star Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali,48. It will also feature the franchise’s original ‘Blade’ actor Wesley Snipes. Bassam’s abrupt exit has pushed the studio to move Blade: The Trinity’s release date from early 2023 to September 2024.

In the meantime, the studio is looking to replace Bassam with someone who can continue to direct the remake and further develop the storyline.
Sources close to the project said,
“They really want to get it right.”
