Meghan Markle Reveals She Has No Plans To Return To Acting, Duchess Invites Actresses Playing Her On Screen To Reach Out For Role Advice
The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle says her acting days are long gone.
During a recent interview, the 41-year-old philanthropist and podcast host revealed she has no current plans to return to television. Markle, born Rachel Meghan Markle, previously appeared in a number of TV and film projects, including a recurring role as Rachel Zane on the NBC series “Suits.” However, Since marrying Prince Harry of Sussex, becoming a mother of two, and being ingratiated into the U.K.’s royal family, it seems the former TV star is ready to leave her acting days in the past.
According to reports, after being asked about making a possible on-screen return, Markle stated:
“No. I’m done. I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”
The media personality was subsequently asked her thoughts on being portrayed onscreen rather than acting on screen. Markle’s real life has been mimicked in multiple projects, including being a central character in Netflix’s hit series “The Crown.” Additionally, both Markle and her husband of three years were portrayed in the lifetime movies “Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance” and “Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal.”
Speaking about being played in different TV and film series, Markle stated:
“I haven’t given that much thought, to be honest. It’s all weird….You have to compartmentalize. Anyone talking about me or casting an actor to play me, that will be a caricature of me that has been created for a business that makes people a lot of money. Once you can separate that out, it’s much easier to go: ‘OK. That actually has nothing to do with me.’ It genuinely doesn’t. It’s a hard lesson to come to grips with.”
Markle continued, offering her hopes and advice to any actress that will play the role of Duchess of Sussex in the future. She stated:
“I hope that in preparing for that role, she finds the softness and the playfulness and the laughter. The silliness….I just hope she finds the dimensions. Also, she can call me!”
Just last week, Markle circulated headlines for her controversial comments about a previous TV gig. While discussing her experience being treated as a ‘bimbo’ on the hit game show “Deal Or No Deal,” the podcast host stated:
“There were times I was on set at Deal or No Deal and thinking back to my time working as an intern at the U.S. Embassy in Argentina in Buenos Aires….and being valued specifically for my brain. Here, I was being valued for something quite the opposite….It was solely about beauty — and not necessarily about brains.”
She continued:
“I was thankful for the job, but not for how it made me feel, which was not smart.”
The comment caught backlash from celebs including Whoopi Goldberg and reality TV personality Claudia Jordan. Jordan, who was also previously a “Deal Or No Deal” case holder, came to the defense of the show, stating:
“Yes getting a MODELING GIG on a game show isn’t necessarily about your intellect BUT every show the executive producers picked 5 models with the most outgoing and fun personalities to place mics on who they KNEW would engage with the contestants…..It was a step on the ladder I’ve been ascending on for 25 years…and led to me getting … On Celebrity Apprentice, Celebrity apprentice All stars, Breast cancer awareness campaign, guest hosting Extra, getting into People Magazine’s 100 most Beautiful issue and SO MUCH more.”
