Kanye West’s Relationship w/ Balenciaga Ends As The Luxury Fashion House Cut Ties Over His Controversial Hate Speech

Balenciaga has called it quits with Kanye West. 

On Thursday (Oct. 20) parent company Kering announced Balenciaga will no longer be working on projects with Yeezy fashion designer Kanye West, who has made headlines in recent weeks due to his multiple controversial comments about Black people, George Floyd, and the Jewish community. 

In a statement Kering said:

“Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”

Kanye West opened the French fashion house’s summer 2023 show during Paris Fashion Week. The “Good Life” rapper wore clothing that appeared as battle gear, including a branded mouthguard blocking his teeth. However, Balenciaga has removed the image from their website. The luxury brand, which collaborated with Kanye on a line sold at Gap, also formed a relationship with the 45-year-old’s ex-wife’s family. Kim Kardashian appeared in advertisements for Balenciaga and her sisters, Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian, have been spotted in attendance during previous fashion shows.

As previously reported, last month the Chicago native terminated his partnership with Gap Inc. while having a defensive attitude that seemingly played a role in the anti-defamation league requesting Adidas end their 10-year relationship with him as well.

On Oct. 6, the German sportswear firm said its partnership with the Yeezy brand was “under review.” The father of four has been facing backlash after he presented “white lives matter” t-shirts during a surprise Yeezy show at Paris Fashion Week. He later handed the shirts out to the homeless residing on Skid Row. According to reports, the Anti-Defamation League labeled “white lives matter” as a white supremacist phrase that came about in 2015 as a racist response to the Black Lives Matter movement.
