Will Smith Disappointed ‘Emancipation’ Film Was Snubbed At The Box Office, Actor Is Hopeful A ‘Solid Movie’ w/ Tom Cruise Can ‘Guarantee’ His Comeback, Insiders Claim
Will Smith is still facing consequences after striking Chris Rock at the Oscars.
According to RadarOnline, Hollywood has made it clear that they’re giving the actor the cold shoulder after he slapped Chris Rock on the Academy Awards stage almost nine months ago. Earlier this month the film “Emancipation,” which stars Will Smith, premiered in theaters. According to reports, during its opening weekend, the $120 million film earned an average of $3,000 per screen. The low average allegedly has Will Smith feeling some type of way, as he seemingly hoped this project would be his big comeback!
An insider shared:
“Will knows it’s a long road to redemption and a lot of folks won’t forgive him, but this really rams it home.”

Will Smith
Moviegoers aren’t the only people ignoring the 54-year-old’s return to the screen. Reports claim that Will Smith’s old Hollywood friend Tom Cruise has been avoiding him after hearing about the incident at the Oscars. Another insider recently claimed:
“Will has approached Tom several times, trying to reconnect and see if they can hang out and brainstorm on some projects together.”
The insider continued:
“A solid movie with Tom would guarantee Will’s comeback, or so he thinks. Will has even offered to fly to London if that’s more convenient, but Tom isn’t biting and doesn’t even write him back.”
They then shared:
“Tom isn’t going to “be stupid enough to put his neck on the line and be dragged down by association.”
The insider added:
“Tom is still very wary of any Hollywood friendships. He likes his reclusive lifestyle in the United Kingdom. He doesn’t want to get sucked back into the Hollywood scene — especially by way of Will Smith. He’s still kryptonite.”

Tom Cruise
As we all know, Smith was scrutinized after taking to the Oscars stage to slap Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife’s bald head. Jada Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia. Despite apologizing for his actions, the Philadelphia native appears to still be dealing with backlash for the slap.
As previously reported, Smith was recently asked about his opinion of those who said they won’t be supporting his latest film due to the slapping incident. He replied:
“I completely understand that. If someone is not ready [to support me again], I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready.”
