Meek Mill Pays Bail For 20 Women So They Can Spend The Holidays At Home
Meek Mill is making sure to rack up his good samaritan points before the year ends.
According to reports, Grammy-nominated rapper Meek Mill bailed out 20 single mothers in his hometown of Philadelphia for Christmas. In addition to that, he gave each lady some spending money to buy food and presents for their families.
This was an act close to the 35-year-old’s heart. As someone who has been imprisoned during the holidays in the past, Meek Mill felt compelled to show generosity to single mothers in similar circumstances.
Meek Mill, born Rihmeek Williams, shared,
“It was devastating for me to be away from my son during the holidays when I was incarcerated. So I understand what these women and their families are going through.”
He added,
“No one should have to spend the holidays in jail simply because they can’t afford bail. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help these women be with their families and loved ones during this special time of year.”
The “Going Bad” rapper also surprised 50 children affected by the criminal justice system. The kids got a chance to spend time with Meek Mill and Philadelphia Eagles players Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, Jordan Mailata, Dallas Goedert, and Jalen Hurts. Afterward, the group got to interview 76ers coach Doc Rivers and watch a game in VIP suite boxes with their new Philly merchandise at the Wells Fargo Center.
This year’s charity efforts were managed by Meek Mill’s REFORM Alliance. It was founded in 2018 by him, Michael Rubin, Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter, Robert Kraft, and others. According to the REFORM Alliance website, the program has contributed to the enactment of 16 bills in 10 states. All of which have created a safer community, stronger families, and a stronger community for all.
It is through contributions like these that Meek Mill was able to combat rapper/designer Kanye ‘Ye’ West’s jokes. Earlier this month, Kanye West shaded Meek during a chat with fans on Clubhouse. When the Yeezy founder recalled celebrities who criticized him for wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt, he seemingly had a laugh at Meek Mill’s expense.
Kanye West said,
“And I put White Lives Matter on a t-shirt. And they said, you know what let’s go get celebrities, let’s go get Puff Daddy, let’s get Dave Chappelle, let’s get Meek Mills. What makes somebody think Meek Mills can say something to me?”
Kanye added,
“That part was really funny to me.”
Meek Mill responded to Kanye ‘Ye” West by saying,
“Never lost my mind for fame or money … I still have my family …my people respect me … I’m freeing people from prison…”
The “Dreams and Nightmares” lyricist continued,
“I’m doing community service all month with children up close and personal .. I’m chilling wit my son and his friends today.. y’all on clubhouse at 50 lol. I mean 50 on clubhouse drawing and not doing any positive wit ya following at that age is hittttt… you can be old or young on clubhouse it’s a place to connect!”
Prior to this year’s donations, Meek Mill gave $500,000 in Christmas gifts to needy families last year. Among the items gifted were; MacBooks, Amazon Fire HD tablets, bikes and helmets, video game gift cards, board games, winter coats, dolls, play sets, playing cards, and gift cards. The donations were a joint effort between Meek Mill, Philadelphia 76ers partner Michael Rubin, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and Roc Nation.
